As someone who has worked as a business coach and consultant for 13 years, I’ve seen firsthand how expensive many training programs can be, often out of reach for the very entrepreneurs who will most benefit and put the training to good use. That’s why I’m truly excited to share about the MDI Business Accelerator in Chicago: a free business training and coaching program that embodies altruism, equity, and the fundamental belief that opportunity should be accessible to everyone.
In my career, I’ve witnessed countless talented business owners - people with big hearts, innovative ideas, and a commitment to service - who don't have access to business coaching, training, and resources because of the inequities of society and resources being allocated toward privileged groups only. This program, brought to you by ComEd’s Market Development Initiative (MDI), offers a different approach: an 8-week, free business training and business accelerator designed to level the playing field and empower underrepresented entrepreneurs.
Why I’m Sharing This
I’ve been hired by the program creators to facilitate the weekly sessions, introducing a variety of business experts, and making myself available for coaching - all at no cost to you. By sharing and participating in this program, my hope is to highlight the need for more equitable access to growth opportunities and to open doors for business owners from diverse backgrounds to thrive.
About the Free Business Training
The MDI Business Accelerator is for diverse-owned businesses: Black, Latinx, Indigenous, women, LGBTQ+, veterans, or people with disabilities. The program runs from September 8 to October 31, 2025 in Chicago, and offers a chance to optimize operations, improve resource management, and prepare for future success.
Participants will connect with industry experts, fellow entrepreneurs, and receive personalized coaching tailored to their unique needs. Focus areas include financial management, marketing automation, energy efficiency, and strategic growth - helping you build a stronger, more sustainable business.
What You’ll Get
This program offers an dream package for business owners (and nonprofit founders too!): peer networking, tailored coaching, and ongoing support - and not only is it free but participants also receive a stipend to attend. The sessions are held in person in Chicago every Monday at 10 a.m., creating a vibrant community of learners and mentors. And at the conclusion, you'll work on a capstone project that puts your new skills into action.
How to Apply
Applications are open now through August 18.
